On January 18th Poppa Joey (my great grandfather) turned 95 years old! It was so exciting. His birthday conveniently fell on a Sunday, so we were able to have everyone together to celebrate. (We missed Aunt Lisa though, who was at President Obama's inauguration!!! my favorite president in my lifetime thus far!!) It was so much fun at the party. I also got to hang out with all my little cousins - Adrian, Elliott, Chloe, Brandon & Elena. Adrian & Elliott's cousins were there too, Jillian, Mason & Gavin. There were kids everywhere, I loved it. Poppa Joey had so many friends & family there and Mom & Aunt Jenny serenaded PJ with a song they wrote themselves (or at least the lyrics to it).
"When I'm 95!"
When we get older, whitening our hair, many years from now.
Will you still be sending us a Valentine, Birthday greeting, bottle of pennies?
If we had a taxi with Jackie O, would you go for a drive?
Will you still need us; will you still feed us, when we’re 95?
Poppa Joey ooooh, and if you say the word, we can sing for you!
We could be handy cutting a vine, when your tomatoes are ripe.
You could win at BINGO, get a chatchki prize, while we admire your bright blue eyes!
Doing the garden, digging the weeds, from upstate NY we drive.
Will you still need us; will you still feed us, when we’re 95?
Every summer we can shave your face in our downstairs room, to make it soft and smooth.
We shall laugh and play, great-grandchildren on our knee – Tyler, Adrian and Elliott.
Send us a postcard, drop us a line, saying I love you.
Indicate precisely your name, date and age, while recording on a tape for PJ.
Give me a dollar coin, go for a walk, and then we’ll go for a drive.

Mommy also sang "Tender Eyes", a favorite of Poppa Joey's. It was the song she wrote for her parents when she graduated High School. (She asked me not to disclose how long ago that was...)
Something else really, really exciting happened at the party. I took my FIRST STEPS!!! It was so perfect. Daddy put me down and I just walked. Everyone was watching and clapped and cheered!
Happy Birthday Poppa Joey!!
